Four Seasons in Rome

March, April and May are among the best months of the year to visit Rome. The season really gets going around Easter so if you can come before then all the better as you get the good weather without the crowds. In terms of cultural events this spring, Rome is hosting a wide variety of exhibitions that include Tintoretto at Scuderia del Quininale, Mirò at the Chiostro del Bramante and the photography of Steve McCurry at Marco. However, the headliner is without a doubt Lux in Arcana, which is being held at the Capitoline Museums. The exhibition is something of a revelation as the Vatican has released original documents of historical importance to the public for the first time. Among the exhibits are Alexander VI’s bull on the discovery of America; the case files on the trial of Galileo and a payment made to Gian Lorenzo Bernini. The arrival of fairer weather also sees the start of Rome’s summer sports calendar, which begins with the city marathon in mid March and ends with Piazza di Siena, show jumping 24 – 27 May.
